Designed by Hand, Sewn on History
When I first envisioned the **StreetBeasts** collection, I knew I wanted it to be more than just another line of T-shirts. It had to be something deeply personal, something that connected my past to the present. That’s when I decided to use my late grandma’s old German sewing machine from the 70s—a piece of history that holds so much meaning for me.
This sewing machine isn’t just a tool; it’s a bridge to my childhood, a time when I would watch my grandma carefully create and mend clothes for our family. There was a certain magic in the way she worked, turning simple fabrics into something special with just a few stitches. When she passed away, this machine became a cherished keepsake, a symbol of her creativity, resilience, and love.
As I began working on StreetBeasts, I realized that using her sewing machine was the perfect way to honor her memory and infuse each piece with that same spirit. Each T-shirt in this collection is made with her machine, just like the clothes she used to make for us. There’s a kind of authenticity that comes with using something so old and storied, a connection to the past that you can’t replicate with anything new.
The designs themselves are inspired by a 90s grunge aesthetic—think worn-in, frayed edges, and a bit of that rebellious spirit. But I wanted to update the look, making it cleaner and more polished while still retaining that nostalgic vibe. Each original collage art piece is carefully transformed into fabric patches and sewn onto the T-shirts, which were specifically chosen for their softness and comfort. These aren’t just any patches—they’ll fray a little over time, adding that lived-in feel that’s so iconic of the 90s but with a modern twist that makes them perfect for today’s wardrobe.
For me, StreetBeasts is about more than just fashion. It’s about telling a story—a story of connection, of creativity passed down through generations, and of a love for the natural world around us. Every time I sit down at that sewing machine, I feel like I’m not just making clothes; I’m creating a piece of my history and sharing it with the world. It’s a reminder that even in our fast-paced, modern lives, there’s always room for a little nostalgia, a little nature, and a lot of heart.
