Reviving Nostalgia:
The Journey of Creating a 90s-Inspired Street Art Brand

In the ever-evolving realm of street art and graffiti, carving out a niche can be as challenging as it is rewarding. My journey into establishing a street art brand centered around collage art and graffiti has been a rollercoaster of creative exploration and entrepreneurial grit. Here’s a glimpse into the challenges I faced, the inspirations I drew from, and my relentless pursuit of finding my place in a competitive market.

From the outset, understanding the market for my unique blend of collage art and graffiti proved to be a daunting task. Traditional market research methods like online forums and in-person surveys posed their own set of challenges since the crowd was so niche and varied that it was hard to understand if I was reaching the right clients. How do I gather genuine feedback without inundating potential customers or falling prey to biased responses from friends and family?

Online forums provided a wealth of insights, but sifting through opinions often required careful discernment. The anonymity of the internet sometimes led to harsh critiques or overly positive feedback that didn’t reflect genuine market sentiments. On the other hand, conducting in-person surveys helped me establish a personal connection with potential customers but often resulted in responses influenced by politeness rather than genuine interest.

Embracing the 90s Throwback & Breaking Through the Norm

Amidst these challenges, inspiration struck from an unexpected source: the vibrant culture of my past in the 1990s. Influenced by the raw energy of street art, Remixed Swing-jazz, newsboy hats, and and the rebellious spirit of hip-hop from that era, I found my creative compass pointing towards a nostalgic aesthetic. The 90s embodied a boldness and unapologetic style that resonated deeply with my vision for collage art infused with bright, and vibrant graffiti elements.

In a design landscape dominated by minimalist aesthetics and clean lines favored by fellow millennials, proposing vibrant, textured collage art posed its own set of challenges. The industry trend seemed to favor simplicity over complexity, often leaving little room for the eclectic and layered styles inherent in graffiti and collage.

Finding My Niche & Embracing the Journey

Undeterred by the prevailing trends, I embarked on a journey to carve out a niche for my distinctive style. It required perseverance and a willingness to adapt without compromising artistic integrity. Through trial and error, I honed my designs, blending the nostalgia of 90s throwback with contemporary sensibilities. Each rejection became an opportunity to refine and redefine my approach, inching closer to a breakthrough.

As I reflect on the challenges faced and milestones achieved, the journey of creating a street art brand focused on collage art and graffiti has been as much about self-discovery as it has been about business acumen. It’s about embracing the unconventional, staying true to artistic roots, and persistently pursuing a vision that resonates with a niche audience.

While the road to establishing a street art brand steeped in 90s throwback aesthetics has been fraught with challenges, it’s these very challenges that have shaped my artistic identity and propelled me forward. With each artwork I create, I celebrate the vibrant tapestry of the 90s while forging a path towards a future where authenticity and creativity thrive.

As I continue to evolve and expand my brand, I remain committed to pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and inviting others to join me on a journey through the colorful streets of nostalgia and innovation.
